Hancock Middle School

This project consisted of the design for a new 13,000sf middle school building on the campus of Hancock Day School. The scope for the project included initial program analysis of the existing facilities and future growth, site analysis, and building design. Despite its location behind the existing primary and lower school buildings, the new building was designed to become a “front door” to the middle school. Connected by covered walkways, the building complements the existing facilities, providing a new cafeteria for the school as well as granting additional classroom space in the lower school with the relocation of the existing middle school program. The new facilities were designed with economy in mind, but also attention to the quality of space, with tall ceilings and ample daylight. The middle school building is compatible with the original lower school facilities in scale and materials, but has its own identity at Hancock Day School.
